ADDRESSING THE ELECTRICITY CRISIS IN NDOKWA/UKWUANI COMMUNITIES- Senator Ned Nwoko Steps In.

Similar complaints have been made regarding the electricity crisis in Ndokwa/Ukwuani communities. A recent issue is the one raised about Ebedei Kingdom in the Ukwuani local government area, which has suffered a blackout for over a decade.

However, before these recent reports, Distinguished Senator Ned Munir Nwoko had proactively taken steps to seek solutions to this undeserved power situation in Ndokwa/Ukwuani communities and Delta North at large.

Before the Senate adjourned for Christmas break, the Senator had put together a motion calling for the need to address the unexplained delay in the electricity step-down of the Okpai independent power plant. While the motion has been enlisted, the extensive Senate committee meetings focused on budget defenses for Ministries and Agencies left little time for plenary sessions; hence, the motion wasn’t moved immediately. As the Senate reconvenes, the motion will make it to the order paper as soon as possible.

The motion calls upon the Federal Ministry of Power and Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to take action to improve the distribution of electricity from the Okpai Independent Power Plant, ensuring it benefits the Delta North Senatorial District. It also calls for necessary steps to ensure the completion of the contract awarded by TCN for the construction of a 132KV Double Circuit Transmission Line, aimed at resolving electricity supply challenges in the Ndokwa nation and the Delta North Senatorial District. Additionally, it aims to address the various issues that hinder the benefits of the host communities and the entire Delta North Senatorial District from receiving the full advantages of electricity supply from the Okpai Independent Power Plant.

The Senator’s motion aims to provide a comprehensive solution to the electricity crisis in Delta North, and he has pledged to follow through and ensure it results in a positive outcome.
