Tanker Explosion : Jigawa Gets N1.4B From Donors For Victims.
The Jigawa State Government has acknowledged the pledge of N1.448 billion in donations from state governments, private, and corporate bodies as support for the victims of the recent tanker explosion in Majia town.
State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Hon. Sagir Musa, disclosed this while briefing newsmen after the Executive Council Meeting, chaired by Governor Umar Namadi, at the Government House in Dutse.
According to him, “The Council has acknowledged the receipt of N1,448,900,000 as support to be extended to the victims and families of the deceased by various individuals and organizations.”
He said the council has also approved the sum of over sixty million Naira for the purchase of food items for distribution to the families of the affected victims.
Sagir explained that the approved food items to be procured and distributed include 25kg of rice, 10kg of millet, 10kg of maize, and 1 carton of spaghetti for each of the families of the 210 deceased and those who were hospitalized.
He added that the families of the victims will also be supported with the sum of N200,000 in addition to all medical expenses being settled by the State Government.
The commissioner further stated that the council has extended its heartfelt appreciation to the Federal Government, 35 state governments, and the numerous individuals and organizations—both within and outside Nigeria—who have offered their condolences and support following the tragic tanker explosion incident in Majia town.
The death toll from the tanker explosion in Jigawa State stands at 181, with another 80 persons in critical condition admitted to hospitals.
